BLOOD AND ROSES // GUY CASSIERS

When Guy Cassiers asked me to make a video for his new project, I didn’t plan to work on the entire set design. Yet, before I knew what was happening, we were shooting images from inside the Palais des Papes that served as backgrounds for the actors. Using this technique as a kind of blue screen avant-la-lettre, resulted, as it were, in a film set for live performance. The story of this play (and its scenography), fits into a single bag. You can pick it up like that, take it with you and open it wherever you like. It is practical and cheap, but when the play starts and both the bag and the story begin to unfold, things seem to get more complicated… In the end, a simple mechanism wipes away everything that was created during the play.
