IS THE GREAT BEAR A LONELY BEAR

In a dark room, a rubber box hangs on the wall. A ladder allows spectators to stick their heads into the box. At the back of the box is a television screen on which the spectator sees himself standing live on the ladder.

Witnessing both himself and the actor’s performance on a screen, the witness finds himself in a space with the actor, somewhere between cinema and reality.

While the witness slowly becomes part of the movie, the actor gradually turns out to be more than a fictional movie character. A game arises of watching and being looked at, of listening and being heard. Looking for ways to communicate, trying to get in touch, encountering technical obstacles and real life concerns, both protagonists realize the problematic situation they are in, but also find beauty in their attempts to reach out.
